Counter-Strike: Source - Gun Guide

Written By: NIN - 11.19.06

While this is a very fast paced game, try to take your time when aiming and firing. Especially if the person you are trying to hit isn't looking.

So take your time, line up the shot, make it count.

Also depending on the gun you are using, don't unload unless you know most of the shots will hit their target.

For instance, I use Desert Eagle more than any other gun in the game. Normally I focus on making my shots count, firing as calmly as I can. I only have 7 rounds, and it only takes one to put someone down. Two if I miss the head, three if I hit a limb.

If the person you are fighting is using a rifle and moving around a lot, try to stay in one spot. I know standing still may make you easier to hit, but you have to keep in mind rifles aren't accurate when they are moving(Scout excluded). So unless the player is extremely good, stand still and remain calm. Make him/her look like as ass as you lay them out with a few well-placed .50AE rounds.

Figure out your play style, and stick to a weapon that suits it.

Shotguns - suitable at all ranges, not as effective at long, but you don't have to aim as well.
-Pump Action - King badass, up close it kills with one shot, at range it. 8 rnds sometimes even gets headshots.
-Auto - The 'noob stick' puts a lot of lead into the air accurately. 7 rnds

Submachine guns - Short to medium range, not too high on damage, but high on accuracy/ROF.
-TMP - Accurate at close quarters, with a high ROF. Same damage as MP5 and glock. 30rnds
-MAC10 - Less accurate than TMP, lower ROF but more damage, same as USP. 30rnds
-MP5- Accurate at short to medium, somewhat less at long. Medium damage. Accurate still while moving. A very good speed weapon. 30 rnds
-UMP- Accurate at all ranges, loooooow ROF, same damage as Mac10/USP. 25rnds
-FNP90 - Not all that accurate because of the high ROF, low damage, negates armor(armor piercing). Same damage as FiveseveN. 50rnds

Assault Rifles - Medium to long. Remember to 'TAP' the trigger. Spraying is a sure way to look like a tool, when someone breaks out their secondary and wrecks you.
-Galil - I really don't use this gun, but I think it's accuracy is in between the AK and M4, and has the same damage as M4. Same ROF too. 35rnds
-AK47 - Here we go. A (wo)man's weapon. High accuracy, high damage, medium ROF. Recoil on this is a bit high, so don't spray. TAP it, take your time, aim, pull. Okay, so that's not what I mean by 'tap it' but it looks cool. I mean fire one shot, maybe two at a time. Mind the Recoil. 30rnds
-Sig552 - High ROF, low recoil decent accuracy. And it can zoom in for precission. I like it. 30rnds
-FAMAS - Ugh. I hate it. It's an amazing gun, and that's why I hate it. I like using weird guns(like the elites) so a gun like this is the bane of my existance. That being said, it has HIGH accuracy and M4 damage. Flick the fire-mode switch to burst and watch the headshots pile up. 25rnds
-M4 - Good gun. Accurate. Good firerate. Medium-high damage. Put the silencer on and there's somehow less recoil and it's more accurate...leave it off for a bti more damage. I like it off, unless I want to stay hidden. 30rnds
-Aug - Zooms in like the SG552, same damage, lower firerate, but more accurate. 30rnds
-Scout - Oh god. Oh Jesus Christ this gun is amazing. Get this: You can aim, run shoot and HIT. That's right! You can stay mobile with this baby sniper rifle. And with the same damage as the AK, it's a goood gun to use. Just make sure to aim high if your target has one of it's bigger brothers.... 10rnds
-HKG3 - Terrorist's Auto sniper. M4 damage. High accuracy. Semi-auto 20rnds
-SG550 - CT Auto Sniper. Same as above, arguably more accurate. 30 rnds
-AWP - One shot, one kill. Accurate. Just don't try to shoot it while running. 10rnds

Pistols-
With pistols, the key is to remember not to fire like a freak. With the exception of the glock and FiveseveN, they have a small clip. In most cases you will be using the pistol, because you ran out of ammo in your primary's current clip. Don't run out in this.

-Glock - Extremely accurate, low damage. User burst fire to up the damage, 18 rnds
-USP - Very accurate, medium damage. User a silencer if you like. 12 rnds
-Sig - About as accurate as the USP. Slightly more damage. 13 rnds.
-Deagle - My weapon of choice. Only 7 rounds so make each one count. The .50AE ammo this big boy shoots does nearly as much as some rifles in the game.
-Elites - Mmmm. Dual pistols. My sniper rifle backup kit. Accurate on the first couple of shots, but they fire so fast your accuracy will die quickly. So try to hit your target in the head in one of the first few shots. Or get in close so they all hit.
-5.7 - Accurate. Fires fast. Low damage, but negates armor. In real life, it's a pleasure to fire. But CS is not real life. Use it if you want to be different. And more different than, I.
